This site was developed to inform and educate the resident's of Fair Lawn, as well as serving as a online resource for the company's members. Fire Company 3 is a 100% volunteer organization devoted to providing fire protection to the businesses and residents of the Borough of Fair Lawn. We were founded in 1924 by a small group of residents, whose full time occupations ranged from businessmen to carpenters. We hope you find our site useful, fun, and informational, and we are always accepting your comments and suggestions.

Fair Lawn Auxiliary Police Lieutenant Ken Pfeifer and Company 3 member was honored last night at the August 19th Council meeting, for his 42 years of service to the unit. By proclamation the mayor and council declared Aug 19th , 2008 as "Ken Pfeifer Day" in the Borough. Auxiliary Police Chief Magarelli proclaiming his life member status in the Auxiliary also awarded Ken a plaque. Ken is a life member of the Fair Lawn Volunteer Fire Dept with almost 40 years of service. In attendance were his wife of almost 50 years Ginger, his children and 5 of his grandchildren. Ken remains active in both Co. #3 and in the Police Auxiliary. Congrats CHIPS!!! We'd send you an congratulatory email but, well you know....

On August 9th, at approximately 0030hrs. Fair Lawn Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a passerby for a motor vehicle accident with rollover and entrapment. On the response were E-3, R-2, E-5 and BLS 931. Upon arrival of PD the driver of the vehicle was still entrapped but was able to free himself with the help of onlookers and PD prior to arrival of E-3. Under the command of Engineer John Buskiewicz(3-3) the vehicle was stabilized and fluids were contained with speedy-dry. R-2 was cancelled by 3-3 upon arrival. The driver was given a field sobriety test by PD and was arrested for DUI. The vehicle was uprighted and removed. Units cleared the scene at approximately 1 a.m.
On June 13th, at approximately 1100hrs. Fair Lawn Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a resident of Carlisle Place reporting smoke coming from a home around the block. First arriving patrol officer observed heavy fire conditions coming from the rear of the home. Chief Carney(976) arrived establishing command and requested 1st due E-3 under the command of Engineer John Buskiewicz(3-3) to stretch two 1 3/4" handlines. A hoseteam stretched one line to the front door and masked up. After a short advance through the living room, the hoseteam had fire rolling above them in the ceiling area of the hallway and found the fire room located on the C,D corners of the home fully involved. The hoseteam knocked down the fire in the hallway and advanced into the fire room. The 2nd handline was brought to the rear to knock down fire that was advancing up the outside of the home. 976 requested E-4 to establish a water supply to E-3. Crews from E-4 arrived and hand dragged about 200 feet of 5" to E-3. Chief Yuskaitis(977) arrived and assumed command with 976 taking operations. T-1 was requested to back into the scene and have their crews start to open up. The fire was quickly knocked down and was fog vented until PPV was established by the truck. Crews from E-4,Q-2 and T-1 were requested to search for extension, shut down utilities and overhaul. With all units working, 977 requested mutual aid cover-up bringing Saddle Brook E-1 and Elmwood Park E-2 to stand-by in Station 3 and Station 1 respectively. Rescue supplied rehab operations while EMS treated the occupant of the home for minor burns and smoke inhalation. Crews from PSE&G arrived and secured all outside utilities. Teaneck Box 54 also operated on scene and provided food and beverages. All units were picked up and back in service at approx. 1400hrs. The Fire Marshals Office is investigating the cause. The occupant refused transport to the hospital for further evaluation.
On June 12th, at approximately 2100 hrs. Fair Lawn Communications Center received several 9-1-1 calls reporting a bus on fire in front of 17-17 River Rd.(Shop Rite). Responding patrol officers observed a column of dense black smoke coming from the reported area from about a half mile away. Officers arrived and confirmed a working tour bus fire located in the rear of a business across from the reported address. Officers spoke with the driver of the tour bus to ensure all occupants were out of the bus. Officers investigated further and found a fully involved tour bus which had exposed to a second bus parked next to it. Quint 2(Q-2) under the command of Capt. Parmentier arrived on scene and established command. Q-2 led off with two 1-3/4" preconnects on initial attack. Chiefs Yuskaitis(977) arrived and assumed command with Deputy Chief Carney(976) assuming Operations. Second due Engine 1 arrived supplying Q-2 with tank water and manpower. Due to heavy fire conditions 3rd due Engine 3 was requested tag a hydrant and lay into the scene. E-3 dropped approximately 600 feet of 5" line to supply E-1. Engine 4, Engine 5 and Truck 1 arrived on scene and supplied manpower. Rescue and EMS stood-by on scene. Units knocked down the fire and began overhaul. Crews from T-1 forced entry into the exposure building to check for extension. Detectives from the FLPD and the Fire Marshals Office are investigating the cause. Units were clear of the scene at approximately 2230 hrs.
On June 7th, at approximately 2200 hrs. Fair Lawn Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a resident of Barry Place reporting a fire in his home. Communications dispatched a general alarm bringing all companies to the scene. First arriving patrol officers observed a heavy smoke condition coming from the home. First arriving Chief Yuskaitis (977) established command and requested 1st due E-4 to stretch an 1 3/4" handline to the seat of the fire. Members of E-4 also established a water supply using a 5" supply line. T-1 arrived on scene and was instructed to ladder the residence to open up and begin primary searches. Deputy Chief Carney (976) arrived and assumed Operations. E-3, Q-2 were then requested to send up their crews to assist in fireground operations. Due to all FLFD companies put to work 977 requested stand-by companies to be dispatched sending Saddle Brook E-1 to Station 3 and Elmwood Park E-2 to Station 1. The fire was knocked down and companies began overhaul operations. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshalls Office. Units were being released around 2300 hrs. with E-4 remaining on scene.

On October 9th, at 1645 hrs., Engine 3, Rescue 1 & 2 were dispatched to Broadway west at Midland Ave for a motor vehicle accident-rollover. 977(Chief Zak) arrived on scene and confirmed a one vehicle MVA with the driver self-extricated. 977 advised that the vehicle was smoking and requested a water can for standby. Upon arrival firefighters pulled the water can and investigated, finding the smoke was coolant hitting the hot engine. Rescue arrived on scene and started absorbing the fluids leaking into the roadway. The driver was evalutated by Fair Lawn Ambulance and St. Joes Paramedics and later refused transport.
