Overturned Cement Truck 9/17/07

On September 17, Engine 1, Quint 2 and Rescue 2 were dispatched to the ramp from Route 208 South to Fair Lawn Ave for a reported overturned dump struck on fire. 976(Dep. Chief Yuskaitis) called in service and was advised Police on scene confirmed a cement truck overturned and on fire. While enroute 976 upgraded the assignment to a general alarm with a special call for Engine 5 to respond for foam. 976 arrived on scene and established command. Engine 1 arrived on scene and stretched a handline to knockdown the fire with Quint 2 arriving shortly after to establish a water supply to Engine 1. Rescue arrived and set up absorbing materials due to leaking diesel fuel. Engine 4 arrived and assisted with manpower and water supply. Engine 5, under the command of Capt. Salvini, arrived and deployed a foam line. Within minutes the fire was knocked down and Rescue units went to work on the fuel spill. Bergen County Haz-Mat was called to assist in the cleanup. The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.
